Adjacent first, second, and third floor, and basement space was added to the existing building in this 27,000sf project. The existing structure is a significant historic building in an historic district, and attention was paid to preserving the architectural integrity of the structure, its surrounding architecture, and the entire historic district.
Future structural capacity for three additional floors was designed with future codes taken into consideration. The project involved one of the most important telephone switching facilities in the nation, and included extensive modifications to the emergency back-up power facility and chiller plant.
Smoak Designs provided full professional services, including interior planning, environmental assessment, and extensive work with the City of Atlanta Zoning Commission for specific variances involved with this site.
