As part of its IDIQ contract with the GSA-Region IV, Smoak Designs has recently completed the design of a multi-level addition and roof system for the Athens Federal Courthouse, an historically significant structure in Athens, Georgia. Although the roof area is only 1,500sf, it has several tie-ins to the existing historical structure, requiring more special details than one would normally expect on a relatively small roof. Multiple edge conditions included metal copings, roof edge fascia, with and without gutters, tie-in to existing roofing membranes, and flashing to new and existing vertical walls.
This project also included design services for a stairway, elevator shaft, exit stair, and a vehicular sallyport for secure transport of prisoners under Marshals Service custody.
Smoak Designs completed the design for this building addition in November of 2005. It is expected that the project will be funded in 2007. In addition to the design, we have been asked to develop the scope of work for the construction administration portion of this project.
